Sleeping on the couch because you gave up your spot for your daughter: only slightly annoying.
Listening to her scream relentlessly for an hour and a half: not my favorite.
Trip to Mr. V's school infirmary just to find out the pediatrician was not there: aggravating.
Trip to pediatrician to find out your daughter has infections in both ears: $20 copay.
Amoxicillin: $5.50.
Doing all of this while 38 weeks pregnant: more than a little painful.
Knowing this will all be over in the next three weeks: Priceless. Definitely a finer thing.
Just wanted to make sure y'all knew I was still alive and hadn't gone into labor yet!

Screaming
There are three times in my life I remember screaming without realizing I was doing it.The first time I was about six or seven and playing the original King's Quest on our very new computer. Somehow I wandered my character right into his death. I started screaming at the top of my lungs: "THE WITCH ATE ME!!!!!!!!!" My parents thought I had been killed.
The other two are more recent. Number two was when I got into a car accident almost two years ago. As the (passed-out) driver hit us, I screamed once. Then I screamed again in pure terror. Just twice, but I remember it vividly. I was sure I was going to die or at least be severely injured. The fact that I got away from that with just a small scar on my arm still amazes me.
The third time was Saturday around 7 p.m.
We were leaving a friend's house after dinner. They have very steep, cobbled stone stairs outside. I was carrying Libbie, and wearing flip-flops. I slipped and toppled head-first down seven or eight of those stone stairs.
It's one of those nightmares of motherhood, those things you imagine. I was hysterical. By the grace of God, Libbie only got a scratch on one foot and a bruise on the other. I am scratched and bruised all over both my legs, but neither of us broke anything and for that I feel very blessed. It could have been SO much worse.
OK, but really. Am I the Queen of Freak Accidents? Since we have moved to Nashville, I have:
--passed out at the Y in the shower and sprained my hip; had to be hauled off to the ER half-naked
--sprained my ankle both playing Wii Tennis and stepping off the curb at my house
--got rear-ended sitting still waiting to turn
--had my car totaled by a driver who passed out at the wheel
--sprained my foot by falling down at the grocery store
--thrown out my back getting out of my car
--and now this.
I just feel like the clumsiest person in the world. I know it was something that could happen to anyone ... but could ALL of this happen to one person, really? Has anyone else had THIS MANY freak accidents?
At least I still haven't broken a bone.
And for protection in all these situations, I am so thankful.

Can Bou Heah Be Dow?
For those of you who don't speak congestion, I'm sorry.
It has been one long week. I had meetings nearly every day at work. Libbie has been stuffed up and went from running a low-grade fever on Monday to being sorta OK to just looking like she felt awful. I took her home early on Thursday and Mr. V did on Friday. She has slept an insane amount and seems to be feeling better.
Unfortunately she passed that crud right along to me and I've been feeling pretty gross since Thursday. I think I have enough snot to wet the Sahara right now and the last thing I want to do is get out of bed to cook, clean, or anything.
But yesterday I had to make a cake and two appetizer-y dishes for a baby shower, drive to the other side of the city to go to it, and then we had made plans for dinner with a couple from church. It was all lovely, but overexertion for my current state. I spent this afternoon in bed! I am going to try to drag myself out to Kroger tonight just to grab a couple of things--I got some good manager's special meats earlier this week while shopping for said shower. (That's a whole other post I have brewing!) So I just need a few things and think I can force myself to go out.
Hope you've had a better week than I did! What was the highlight? Mine was probably taking a two-hour nap with Libbie on Thursday afternoon and getting to read a large chunk of a great book
I have to review!

Apologies
Sorry for the lack of posts. I have mastitis and I have felt like death for three days. I will be back to my normal self soon now that I am on heavy duty antibiotics, I hope! (Seriously, they are the BIGGEST pills I have ever taken.)
Will leave you with a picture of my cutie pie.

The Doctor Weighs In
I had my 36 week appointment yesterday afternoon. Libbie is still very healthy, her heart rate was a happy 155, and she squirms delightfully most of the time. And for the slightly scary part: the doctor estimates she is almost 7 lbs. now and will be 8 to 8 1/2 when she's born! It is pretty much what I expected, as I was 8, 1 at birth and my sister was 8,13. Mr. V doesn't count because he was 6,13 but a few weeks early. So anyway...I'm now preparing for a big chubby baby girl!!
I am 40% effaced and at -2 station, but not dilated. It does feel today like she's dropped a little. I can breathe--hallelujah!! And there has been none of the rib-kicking at all today. We're excited she seems to be doing her thing and will hopefully make a healthy entrance into the world in a few weeks!
Unfortunately I laid on my back and waited for the doctor for probably 45 minutes yesterday. Afterwards I felt really dizzy and bad and it was already 5 o'clock before I was leaving the city. Then I had to go to the grocery, to the eye doctor to pick up contacts, and I got some dinner at Taco Bell. (Yeah, screw the menu plan, I was WAY too tired to cook.) By the time I got home it was nearly 7. I ate a little and ended up throwing most of it away. I put away the perishable groceries and left the rest sitting on the counter. I tried to watch a movie but by 7:45 I felt so awful I wanted to cry. So I just went to bed and slept for 10 1/2 hours, minus potty trips. I feel much better and actually rested today!
Hopefully tonight I can get the baby clothes from my friend Stephanie all put away and tidy up the nursery some. But no promises. Sometimes a girl's just gotta rest. (And also, there's no way I'm missing Project Runway to clean!)

Blegh
Well, I am back from Ohio, and while there I seem to have acquired a fever and constant congestion. Which is especially fun when you can't take anything for it.
I'll be back when I can breathe and feel more coherent!
For now...here are some of my favorite old posts:

Blech
Today has been a kind of miserable day. I started a new medicine last night and today I have had a monster headache. All stinking day. I even took a nap in the middle of the day and it didn't go away. Caffeine, nope. Aspirin, no. Tylenol, nope. GRRR. As long as I sit stationary it feels fine and I am having a hard time convincing myself I need to leave the couch. But I do need to run out to Wal-Mart tonight. It is four minutes from our house and it should take fifteen minutes tops. Must. motivate. self.
And for the rest of the night, I can sit here and stare at my Christmas stuff sitting in boxes inside my house instead of three feet away in the storage space outside. When it's 15 degrees outside it's hard to muster up any desire to go outside at all.
So much more comfortable to sit on the couch and watch The Office
on DVD. :)
On a happy note, I made some soup tonight that I thought would be OK but Mr. V actually praised it, which is kind of unusual. I cooked some chicken thighs in water on the stovetop, then took them out and cut them up. Then I put them back in, added salt and pepper, herbs de Provence, celery salt, and a bay leaf. I dumped in a big can of Veg-all and a little can of diced tomatoes and let it all boil for awhile. And some extra frozen corn. It was all quite tasty and good for a freezing cold night.

Accidents Happen, But Accidents Like This Only Happen to Me
And I started this week with such high motivation...
I was at the gym at 6 AM on Monday morning. Had a nice 25-minute workout but then I had to get ready for work. I was in the shower at the Y and my shampoo fell and rolled into another stall. Bright me, I decided to crouch down and just reach for it. Well, I twisted my hip in a very painful way. Then I stood up and passed out from the pain.
They took me to the ER. VERY embarrassing and painful. I can't lift my left leg hardly at all, which makes exercise seem impossible at this point. Plus when I'm sick I just want to eat. I haven't eaten everything in the house, which is good, but we did order pizza on Tuesday night, and last night Adam and I had roast chicken and stuffing.
Tonight is salmon, which sadly is high-WW point even though it's so good for you. I need to have a frozen meal for lunch, but I'm going to PeiWei instead. I don't understand their calories on their website vs. what is on the DWLZ website. Ack.
Off to lunch.
